The team at Orega’s Wandsworth business centre recently raised cakes, smiles and £300 for Macmillan Cancer Support as part of the charity’s ‘world’s biggest coffee morning’ event.
Smiles were elicited from clients by both the standard of the cake-making and the fact that Wandsworth customer service representatives Emma Brackenridge and Sharka Komurkova donned bright green morphsuits for the whole two hours of the event. The costumes were donated by former client PureGym and closely matched the brand colour of the charity.
As well as working hard to provide a delicious spread of cakes and biscuits, the team’s effort was enhanced by sponsorship of Sharka’s 30-day bikram challenge. This was no mean feat as it involved 90-minutes of bikram yoga a day performed in temperatures of up to 40.6°C and humidity of 40%. Sharka was so bitten by the yoga bug that she has subsequently extended the challenge to 102 days to raise even more money for Macmillan.
For the coffee morning, Emma and Sharka also managed to obtain a Krispy Kreme fundraising deal whereby they were able to buy four boxes of doughnuts at £4 for a box of twelve and then sell them on for £8 per dozen or £1.20 each. In addition, the local Oddbins gave generously to the cake sale and Sharka’s sponsor sheet, and topped this up with 10 bottles of wine to distribute for a suggested donation. This went down very well on a Friday afternoon with Orega’s clients!
As the afternoon wore on, the team decreased the prices of the cakes and provided further discounts if the clients proved sufficiently entertaining. An excellent day was had by all and the team were roundly congratulated by clients for organising such a fantastic programme of activities for a very worthwhile cause.
